reflection for group presentation
Start…
·
Make things more
clear, some point we tried to make were somehow unclear to the class.
·
Have a catchy intro to
get other attention. We tried to this with the facts but it did not work out
·
Making a clearer
rhetorical situation
·
I thought we did have
an overview that Ben stated but rubric sas we did not so we need to make that
clear
·
Stop…
- · Leaving thing vague. And be more precise so others understand.
- · Giving to many slides per one person.
- · Having one person go then other.. instead more integration of other members
Continue…
·
Use of props definitely
was a plus with our group
·
Having different roles
and adding humor was alos good
·
There was an even
distribution of what everyone had to do and everyone pulled through on what
they were supposed to do.
·
The use of media I our
TARror house video/marketing video was serious because it showed the audience
that we were serious about our product and that our product is needed, especially
in Santa Barbara County so this helped in presenting our point.
3
team’s moves
- · The use media and humor from AI was very well done. it got others attention. We could have done something as an intro for ours.
- · The dump group use of blue print for slides was very good. We could have had unique slides for our presentation.
- Traxs group did great use of stats. We could have brought more to our presentation to

Group outline
My group members are
Ben, Trinidad, Daisy, and Courtney
For our group project we are trying to sell a concept product called TAR-OFF, and also its sister products.
Outline of our presentation:
SLIDE 1
To begin with we will introduce ourselves and each say a local fact about tar. We will use the prezi to accompany our introduction.
"I'm Jesus and today I'll be telling you a little bit about tar, did you know "the chumash used to put tar in their boats to prevent water from entering.”

"I'm Jesus and today I'll be telling you a little bit about tar, did you know "the chumash used to put tar in their boats to prevent water from entering.”
SLIDE 2
Then we will have a slide in the prezi to give an overview of what the presentation will include:
-Intro and facts (1 min maybe slightly more)
-Problem (1 min maybe slightly less)
-Solution: Our product TAR-OFF (20 seconds)
-Testimonials (1 min 30 secs each followed by 1 min response from Tar Geenie, total skit about 10 min.)
-Video (3 minutes)
-Conclusion (30 sec)
-Break Down (1 min 30 sec)
-Thanks
SLIDE 3
We will have a brief slide outlining the problems off tar on our local beaches--but the particulars of this information will come from the live testimonials. This slide will include some stats, and images of tar.
SLIDE 4
We will have a slide to pitch our product enthusiastically. Maybe with an image, but definitely with our product TAR-OFF in big letters.
SLIDE 5
Will just say "Live Testimonials-don't just take our word for it"
SLIDE 6
An image of a beach back-round because the testimonials will take place at the beach
Then we will go through our skit:
The skit features 4 encounters between someone upset by Santa Barbara tar, and a magic Tar Geenie who appears and markets our product. We will all be in costume.
First--- Ben will act as a local surfer coming out on to the beach after a nice sesh. He will use a south african(ish) accent to add comedic relierf. As Ben come out on to the beach he will say, "sand oh I love sand, Im gunna do some sand angels" then he will lay on the ground and pretend to do sand angels. After he gets up he'll say croiqe I've got black sticky icky all over my body, how will I get this gel off of my body when I don't have a bottle of soy sauce on meh...If I only I had a Tar Geenie
Then the tar geenie (Courtney) will appear and promote TAR-OFF, saying that it comes in convenient towlette packets which I can carry in my wetsuit. "I'll say radical, thanks tar geenie" and exit stage.
Second--Daisy will enter dressed as a tourist gathering rocks from the beach. She will pretend to get tar on her hands form a real tar covered rock brought from the local beach. Because she is a tourist from Seattle she will say "Oh what is this stuff, if I only there were some Geenie"
Then poof courtney the tar geenie will appear again and promote TAR-OFF. This time she will explain the origins of tar in SB and say that it’s a big part of SB economy to drill oil. The tar geenie will also explain the natural ingrediants to appeal to the seattle hippie. Daisy will say "wow thanks tar geenie"
Third--A local hotel manager (Trinidad) walks onto the beach on break to have a cigarette. She gets tar on her foot and starts to complain about not only does it get on her feet when she walks on the beach, but also tourists track it in and ruin the hotel carpet. She'll say "I spend all my time scrubbing tar, if only there were some kind of tar geenie" and then poof Courtney will again appear. The tar geenie will promote our product TAR-OFF but then also promote the TAR-BAR which can be used on fabric or carpet. Trinidad will be overjoy'd and excliam "wow thanks tar geenie"
Fourth— I will be a local jogger, going for a run on the beach with his pet horse Rusty. I will stop for a break and notice that there is tar all over his expensive Nike running shoes. He will begin to get upset and then realize that his trusty steed Rusty also has tar all over his hoofs and body. I will call out "If only there was a tar geenie" then poof Courtney the Tar Geenie will once again appear. This time she will not only promote TAR-OFF sister product TAR-BAR for my shoes, but this time she will also introduce TAR-BAR Tojan extra strength edition, which I can use to scrub Rusty clean of tar as well. I will say "great, thank you so much Tar Geenie"

SLIDE 8
Conclusion-pushing TAR-OFF once more
SLIDE 9
will explain our basic process creating this presentation. We will talk about meeting as a group and going to the beach to ask real people and observe first-hand the problems caused by the local tar. We will talk about how we all worked hard and had great chemistry as a group, we put our minds together and ultimately had a lot of fun coming up with a solution for a problem that we really have observed.
Thanks.

3rd reflection
Compared to my other speeches I have continued to improve.
As I was not relying on slides as I did in other presentations but I still need
to check on my time and stop with the “uhms.”
Start:
·
I started off right by getting away from
screen but then I resorted to that position again so need to find a place away
from monitor to not rely on PowerPoint.
·
I need to practice more on presenting and
keeping track of time. Practice to someone or in front of a mirror so I feel
like it’s the real thing. Put a timer so I know I’m on track. I was over the time
limit and I had a couple of important things I still needed to say.
·
I need to feel confident when I present. I
felt confident because I knew what I was talking about but I felt nervous being
in front of everyone.
·
Paying more attention to time. I was so
concentrated on getting my speech done I did not pay attention to the time and went
over so I did not actually finish it correctly and caused me to missed an
important part. I am depending on a minute per slide but because im am trying
to remember everything I go slower.
·
I need to start making more eye contact
with the audience while it was a bit nerve wrecking to look at people while you
presented I still need to focus on my audience and give the presentation to
them rather that floor.
·
I need to change my voice throughout the speech.
I used the same tone throughout this one and having different sounds and tone
would make it more exciting.
·
I need to control my hands I was playing
with them while I presented to relax but that made me look more nervous and
unprofessional.
·
I should meet all the guides on the rubric
to have an effective presentation. I missed explicitly saying the “moves” of my
speech which cost me points although I did present hem. By being organized I
could have met this criteria.
Stop:
·
I need to stop Using “UHM”!! This is a big
one as I used it several times throughout my presentation and disrupted it from
having it flow.
·
I need to stop being so still and not
having any body language or engaging gestures that made the audience listen to
me.
·
I need to stop relying on the PowerPoint.
While I had practiced several times before I felt I was looking at my monitor
more than I should have.
·
I need to stop leaving out parts of my
speech, especially parts that I have practiced.
·
I need to stop getting a wave of anxiety
prior to going up to do my speech. However I think it really helped that I went
first because I didn’t get as nervous as the last presentation waiting for
everyone to present.
Continue:
·
I improved in many aspects so I should
continue to do that. Knowing my topic rather than memorizing it was something
that helped.
·
I had a loud voice that my audience could
hear what I was saying this was good.
·
I should continue to put an emphasizes on
certain words that way it lets my audience know I want them to know that was an
important part of my speech.
·
I should continue in making my
presentations clear. My objective and purpose was clear, while I did not meet
other expectation this was something that was clear.
·
I should continue to adapt my language to
the audience I am presenting to. While this presentation was easier because I
was sharing with classmates I didn’t change much but I should consider it for
other times.
·
I should continue being prepared for my
speeches by doing the background research on the subject I was presenting.
While I did know part of it already I still researched more on it to make sure.
Classmate’s
moves
Canyon always does a great presentation he changed his
tone in several occasions regarding what he was presenting. Showed evidence on
a very radical choice that made it credible.
Ryan presented on a topic that was also radical and he
knew his presentation which made it better. He did not have to rely on his PowerPoint.
Ling put passion into her presentation and did an
excellent job in setting up the presentation and how it was organized.

radical speech
For speech #3 the radical idea that I’ll
be presenting on is self-euthanasia. I’m going to persuade the audience that one
should be to kill themselves or be able to decide when
they want to die weather it’s because of depression sickness, disease pain or
other matter.
Consensus
·
Still other possibilities as
your young and medicine can improve and save their lives.
·
It is illegal to kill oneself.
·
It is considered murder if
doctor gives the dosage.
·
It is actually the doctors’ professional
commitment as healers to care for patients and protect life, not to take it
away
·
Euthanasia is the act of causing death or
depriving the life of a human being. The wrongness in killing is that people
have a moral right not to be killed.
·
taking their right away especially when
there are so many other options available
·
US spend significantly more on
health care than any other nation this could mean there is hope
·
Why it should be acceptable
·
Avoid great suffering and
Maintain one’s dignity, while insuring others remember us as we wish them to
·
When life is no longer considered a
benefit by the patient
·
No more use of respirator to breathe, and
needing a caregiver to be able to eat, and help with other basic life needs.
·
Causes more suffering as family and
friends have to make time to take care of them, and meet their needs.
·
There is also the factor of expenses to
take into consideration. hospital charges thousands of dollars alone to be hooked onto a respirator
·
The insurance scenario makes perfect
sense; as we buy insurance just in case our house burns down. We don’t want our
house to burn down, nor do we want to be in this situation of wanting death,
but making it legal makes it an option if we ever come across this situation.
·
Doctor already practice that when they
disconnect a patient from life support therefore it should be allowed
·
Unnecessary surgery results in 12,000
deaths.
·
Iatrogenic deaths (those resulting from treatment
by physicians or surgeons) are the third leading cause of mortality in the
United States, resulting in the loss of 225,000 lives per year.
·
One-half to one-third of the $2.2 trillion per year
America spends on health care is simply unnecessary,
says former AMA chairman Raymond Scalettar.
Reasoning…
People should be able to decide if they want to live
or not without anyone judging. If they are able to do so they can take lethal
injections.
This is good as it if people less traffic. Less
expenses on health care. Less people at Disneyland lines that are horrible
already.
There is no medicine to get you through certain pain
this would eliminate all suffering.
If the person choosing to die administers the dosage
the doctor cannot get charged for murder.

2nd analysis
My overall thought analysis of my presentation was it that
it was better than my previous presentation but still needs improvement in
certain areas. Compared to the first presentation I feel I did better. While some
parts on the rubric show I need to improve I still feel I have progressed on
them compared to my first presentation.
Start:
·
I need to start memorizing my speeches. Keep
rehersing until I fully know it and do not have to rely on notes or
presentations.
·
I need to practice more on presenting and
keeping track of time. Practice to someone or in front of a mirror so I feel
like it’s the real thing. Put a timer so I know I’m on track.
·
I need to feel confident when I present.
·
I need to move around during my
presentation like I I was telling a story. For this speech I could have
impersonated a car salesman walk to greet someone or when they leave.
·
Paying more attention to time. I was so
concentrated on getting my speech done I did not pay attention to the time and went
over so I did not actually finish it correctly and caused me to missed an
important part.
·
I need to explicitly say what I will talk
about before I present it that way I have a path to follow.
·
I need to start making more eye contact
with the audience while it was a bit nerve wrecking to look at people while you
presented I still need to focus on my audience and give the presentation to
them rather that floor. While I improved on not looking at the floor I was
looking at the monitor instead of my audience and lost points there.
·
I need to change my voice throughout the speech.
I used the same tone throughout this one and having different sounds and tone
would make it more exciting. I could
have done the high pitched welcome I talked about.
·
I need to control my hands I was playing
with them while I presented to relax but that made me look more nervous and
unprofessional.
·
I should meet all the guides on the rubric
to have an effective presentation. I missed explicitly saying the “moves” of my

I need to stop being dull in my tone of
voice
·
I need to stop getting a wave of anxiety
prior to going up to do my speech. However I think it really helped that I went
first because I didn’t get as nervous as the last presentation waiting for
everyone to present.
·
Stop being so nervous.

Classmate’s
moves
One move I enjoyed was Mackenzie she presented in a
unique way by actually performing her presentation. Then went on to explain it.
She has the same tone of voice which made it more realistic.
Canyon also did a great presentation he changed his
tone in several occasions regarding what he was presenting. The video example
was humorous and fit well into the concepts he presented about.

2nd speech rough draft
Car Sales Speech
(Persuade)
If a person walks in I have to greet them rite away or another salesman would
- beat the pother sales person in rock paper scissors
- be on the look out
First I would greet the customer when they come on to the lot,
- wait a minute or two when they come in to not annoy them
- come out with huge cheesy smile and open hands
- high pitch voice to say welcome
- offer coffee or water
next I ask a brief of questions like if they are trading in a car or replacing or just adding, then after all that I tell them to look at a couple of cars and my goal is to find things that they liked from there previous car that I could use to show that this car here has all those things you love plus more.
- step back and let them look at cars and just when there is an argument step in so they keep looking for more instead of fighting and leaving but don't choose a side
- agree to what they say
- listen or pretend to
- ask questions like what did you like from your previous car that you would like in your next car?
- they like comfort and sportiness, then I say the Mustang seat is very comfortable new lumbar support and new bucket seats for a better ride and to keep you in your seat just in case you do any racing haha, sportiness I mean it's a Mustang, this car is build for going fast, but also to be safe, and around there I would turn on the 5.0 v8 Mustang.
- or if its a family i tell them about the SUV that has great gas mileage, safest vehicle, economical, and it simply looks good for them.
Now they love the car but they hate me because im selling it
- we go inside show them numbers and they say, price to high,
- i say its a best offer
- they say they found a better deal somehwere else or I have to leave, I have to talk to my husband, stiff like that,
- let's say price to high well this is the car you picked we can look at another one a bit cheaper if this is a bit over budget,
- but typically they will say, wait, well maybe we can work a number,
- and that's when I say ok, well you told me that you wanted to get as close to $400 as possible for monthly payment, if I can find some crazy way to get you to that number you would buy by his car today??
- wait wait wait wait, they say yes,
this is were the fun starts
- ok great give me on sec, leave talk to manager
- i dont tell manager anything but just leave and pretend like i am talking to him
- go back, and with excitement i say great news I was able to save you something something amount of dollars, I got you a 430 payment
- they're excited because they think they got a deal
- smile and stick my hand out and we're done.
then i pass it over to finance
- present them like they are the most amazing people
- Finance gets them and they sign and finance tryst to sell some stuff to them,
- they buy something a warranty or something.
wave good bye to them in longest smile
